Beers of the World - Moosehead, New Brunswick Canada

I also received a sampler of Beers of the World from my parents over Christmas.  One of the conditions of  these tastings is that I do it as the first beer of the evening so my palette is clean, but tonight I didn't do that.

After meeting Teresa at a local pub and having a couple Loose Cannons I came home to crack open the Moosehead Lager that was included in my Beers of the World sampler my parents had given me for Christmas.

What I expected: An import-like semi-Heineken with a lot of metallic semi-bitter flavor that shares the almost-skunky lineage of beers in green bottles.

What I got: A very smooth, likeable beer with a hoppy, green almost grassy start to the flavor but a very decent finish that yearns for the next swallow.

Beer: Moosehead Lager
Brewery: Moosehead Breweries Limited, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

That's all that's on the label, folks.  No idea on ABV unless I Google (which yields a 5.00% ABV).

Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale

Anderson Valley Brewing Company
Boonville, Mendocino County, California

Beer: Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale

Website: www.avbc.com

Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale
Ale with natural flavor added
6.9% ABV

Grade: Yummy.

This beer is quite delicious, especially for a high gravity beer.  It's amber and clear with only the faintest whiff of hops.  It is sweet and smooth, with a roasted after finish.  It poured with a nice head and there is carbonation to the tongue, but not a lot of bubbling in the glass.  This is definitely a beer I'll want to get again.
